Current Research and Future Directions

Our research interests focus on the fields of Organic Synthesis and Catalysis and its application towards the synthesis of biologically interesting molecules. Organic synthesis can be considered to be a key technology, which enables the construction of matter on a molecular and supramolecular level. It is thus key to many endeavors in the molecular sciences, which may be either economically or scientifically motivated. Hence, it is one of the core technologies for the chemical and pharmaceutical industry.

A technology is only as powerful as its single tools – the synthetic reactions. Complexity increase, selectivity, atom economy are factors, which define efficiency in this area. In particular catalysis and catalytic reactions can meet all these criteria simultaneously. Thus, merging the fields of catalysis and organic synthesis promises an economically and environmentally benign new quality of organic synthesis.
